Notable individual performances.
John Gregory led the staff with 8 2/3 innings, 0 earned runs allowed, a .103 opposing batting average (and 2 of the 3 hits were actually defensive misplays). He struck out 11 of 12 batters faced in his first, perfect 4-inning outing and finished with 17 K's total (55% of all batters faced).
Cayman Richardson led the team in hitting at .471 despite being robbed twice the last game. He reached base 12 times in 6 games overall. He and Henry Moore paced the club with their .571 on base pct for the week.
Catchers Henry Moore and Andrew Llewellyn each hit .400.
Eric Sloper stole 7 bases including 4 in the Taconic Rangers game alone (including a straight steal of home) while also pacing the team with 5 RBI in the tournament.
Griffin Roberts stole 6 as a courtesy runner.

Key game performances
Game 1: 15-1 win over Fastball USA (Schaumberg, IL) - Noah Murdock got the Cardinals out of the gate by striking out 5 of the first 6 opposing hitters while going perfect through 3 innings. Vinnie Pasquantino had an effective debut with 1 1/3 shutout innings in relief. Total team effort on offense really, no one guy standing out over everyone else as 9 of the 10 offensive starters had hits.
Game 2: 1-0 win over Orlando Assault Adam Trice threw three shutout innings with 6 K's, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the third after two bloop hits with 2 punchouts. John Gregory then threw 4 perfect innings while striking out 11 of the 12 batters he faced on his way to the win. After a walk to Gregory, Teeple as courtesy runner stole second and scored on Richardson's long double for the game's only run. Tough luck hitting kept the Cardinals from getting more in this one but Gregory closed it out without difficulty.
Game 3: 5-3 win over Indiana Prospects - Prospects had been highly touted as a team to watch by PG just the night before (PG Article on the Prospects can be seen HERE), but the Cardinals barred them from the playoffs. Griffin Roberts allowed only 2 hits and 1 run in 3 innings, A.J. Stead threw 2 2/3 innings with only 1 run allowed (win), and Steven Carpenter closed with 1 run in 1 1/3 (save). Carpenter also drove in 2 with a ground out and a sac bunt on a safety squeeze. Llewellyn, Sloper and Pasquantino also drove in key runs.
Game 4: 8-1 win over Baseball U New England Sorokowski 4 innings, 1 run, 6 K's; Harrington 2 shutout innings with 2 K's and only 1 single allowed; Pasquantino 1 shutout inning to close. Richardson 3-3 and Carpenter had 2 hits.
Game 5: 9-1 win over Taconic Rangers Harrington returned for his second outing of the day to go 5 innings with only 1 run allowed on 3 singles and a walk. Murdock closed with a perfect inning, 1 K. Team stole 12 bases without being thrown out once; Sloper had 4 himself highlighted by a straight steal of home. Pasquantino's 2-run double might've been the hit that opened the floodgates. Sorokowski also had a double and 3 RBI on the game.
Game 6: 3-0 loss to St. Louis Gamers Gregory again very effective, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing only 3 unearned runs. (1 on a PB and 2 when the Cards threw away the ball on a rundown at 3rd). 6 K's, 3 hits, 2 walks. 2 of the hits should've been outs (misplayed fly ball, and a double clutch on broken bat grounder). Stead went 1 1/3 shutout innings to keep it close. Gregory also had 2 of the Cardinals 4 hits in a game when more than a few hits were taken away by stellar Gamers defense, 5 outs were converted on the bases, and the Gamers generally prevented any rallies from starting.

Game 1: Cardinals offense too much to handle Virginia Cardinals took the 15-1 win over Fastball USA. Steven Carpenter (2016, New Kent, VA) had two hits with a double and scored three runs. Cayman Richardson (2016, Hanover, VA) had two hits, two RBI's, and scored one run. Justin Sorokowski (2016, Lee Davis, VA) hit a double and scored two runs. John Gregory (2016, Hanover, VA) hit a double, had one RBI, and scored two runs. Adam Trice (2015, Lee Davis, VA) hit a double and scored two runs. Eric Sloper (2015, Patriot, VA) hit a double, two RBI's, and scored two runs. Henry Moore (2016, Atlee, VA) was 2-2 at bat with one RBI and scored one run. Noah Murdock (2016, Colonial Heights, VA) faced 14 batters with a fastball averaging at 81 mph and topping at 83 mph. Vinnie Pasquantino (2016, James River, VA) pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing only one hit, but struck out three. His fastball averaged at 75 mph and topped at 79 mph.
Game 2: Cardinals Improve to 2-0-0 John Gregory (2015; Mechanicsville, VA) and Adam Trice (2015; Mechanicsville, VA) pitched a fantastic game for the Virginia Cardinals, who defeated the Orlando Assault, 1-0, in a game played at Lee County Sports Complex. Trice started the game for the Cardinals, striking out 6 while allowing 3 hits and 1 BB. Not to be outdone, Gregory entered the game in the 4th inning and struck out 11 of the 12 batters he faced. Gregory pounded the strike zone, throwing 76.6% of his pitches for strikes.
Cayman Richardson (2016; Mechanicsville, VA) went 1-2 with a double, a BB and an RBI for the Cardinals; Brendan Ryan (2016; Orlando, FL) went 1-2 with a double for the Assault. The two teams combined for just 6 hits.
Game 3: Virginia Cardinals hold on for 5-3 win The Virginia Cardinals were able to hold off a late rally by the Indiana Prospects to earn a 5-3 win. The prospects scored one run in the 6th and 7th innings, but it was too little too late. The Cardinals were able to come away with the victory despite committing 4 errors.
Steven Carpenter (2016, New Kent, Quinton, VA) went 1-3 with 2 RBI's. Vinnie Pasquantino (2016, James River, Moseley, VA) went 1-2 with an RBI. Nicholas Butts (2015, Manchester, Chesterfield, VA) went 1-1 with 2 runs scored.
Griffin Roberts (2015, James River, Midlothian, VA) earned the win on the mound. He pitched 3 innings and struck out 3 batters. A.J. Stead (2015, Eastern View, Culpeper, VA) pitchd 2.2 innings and threw 60.8% of his pitches for strikes.
Game 4: Virginia Cardinals record 11 hits in 8-1 win The Virginia Cardinals pounded-out 11 hits in their 8-1 win over Baseball U New England to advance to the second round of the playoffs Sunday morning at the jetBlue Complex.
Cayman Richardson (2016, Hanover, VA) led all players with his 3-for-3 effort. Richardson displayed a quick bat at the plate and good fielding actions and arm strength in the field. Teammate Steven Carpenter (2016, New Kent, VA) went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored from the leadoff spot. Carpenter showed a short, compact swing and good bat speed.
RHP Justin Sorokowski (2016, Lee Davis, VA) struck out six in four innings for the Cardinals. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder attacked hitters with a fastball that sat in the 82-84 mph range. Sorokowski also flashed a low-70s curve with good depth, and a good changeup in the mid-70s.
Game 5: Cardinals Rout Rangers In a playoff game at Field 4 of Jet Blue Player Development Complex, the Virginia Cardinals cruised past the Taconic Rangers, 9-1. Vinnie Pasquantino (2016; Moseley, VA) had a solid game for the Cardinals, going 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI; Justin Sorokowski (2016; Mechanicsville, VA) went 1-3 with a double, a BB, a run and 3 RBI.
Chesdin Harrington (2015; Montpelier, VA) started the game on the mound for the Cardinals, giving up 3 hits, 1 BB and 1 earned run in 5.0 innings pitched. Harrington pounded the strike zone, throwing 71.9% of his pitches for strikes. Noah Murdock (2016; Colonial Heights, VA) closed the game for the Cardinals, striking out 1 in an inning of work.
